Retrospective audit of records and letters.
The purpose of this audit is to determine the extent of communication by osteopaths with other disciplines and the extent of referral out of the practice.
- Letters were written to GP’s in 41% of cases.
- Letters to Orthopaedic Surgeons/Spinal Surgeon 12%.
- Letter to Consultant Rheumatologist 3%.
- Concerning medico-legal issues 3%.
- Podiatry 2%.
- Employers 1%.
Patients referred out of Practice.
- Outward referrals to Orthopaedic/Spinal Surgeon 13%.
- Rheumatology assessment/blood test 8%.
- Cortisone injections 4%
- Densitometry 4%.
- Podiatry 2%.
- MRI Scans 6%.
About the Audit Development Group
34 practitioners from 15 practices are involved in audit projects and meet on four separate days each year.
The following study is the first pilot project run since the group first met in May 1999. The aim of the group is to develop audit in Osteopathic practice. They will identify the areas most necessary for audit. |
