Michael Mann

 Pilates is a complete approach in developing muscle and body awareness and it has been used as a method of rehabilitating since its conception in the early 1900s by Joseph Pilates. 

 

The studio at Gilmour Piper uses both pilates equipment as well as working on mats. 

 

Pilates is suitable for general fitness, injury prevention, flexibility and strength and aiding recovery after injury or illness and well as being beneficial for post and ante natal exercise.

 

Michael trained with Alan Herdman in the mid 1980s. Alan Herdman brought pilates to the England during the the late 1970s. Michael worked at Shrubland Hall Health Clinic until it closed in 2006 when he moved to Gilmour Piper to open his own studio within the practice.

 

Michael is a qualified swimming instructor both for able bodied  and disabled and he also holds a coaching qualification in swimming. Other qualification are in gym instructing, personal training, exercise to music and fitness assessment. He also trained as a masseur during his training as a pilates teacher. 

 

Michael also is a trainer in health and safety first aid at work.
