In the mid-1980s, Michael trained with Alan Herdman – the man who brought Pilates to England a decade earlier – before working at Shrubland Hall Health Clinic.
When that clinic closed in 2006, he moved to Gilmour Piper to open his own studio within the practice where clients use Pilates equipment and work on mats.
Pilates is a complete approach in developing muscle and body awareness, as well as a method of rehabilitating after injury or illness. It’s also suitable for general fitness and injury prevention, for improving flexibility and strength, and for post and ante natal exercise.
Michael is also a qualified swimming instructor (for both able-bodied and disabled swimmers) and holds a coaching qualification in swimming. His other qualifications include gym instructing, personal training, exercise to music and fitness assessment, and he trained as a masseur when learning to be a Pilates teacher. Michael also is a trainer in health and safety first aid at work.
