We refer many clients for diagnostic ultrasound. This is the same diagnostic equipment as those used in professional sport, including at Ipswich Town Football Club. Also called a sonogram, it helps diagnose sports and other soft tissue injuries by using high-frequency sound waves to create an image of anywhere inside the body. This is a particularly useful technique as, unlike the image from an MRI scan, we can see the tissues moving with an ultrasound.
Diagnostic ultrasound is particularly useful for observing shoulder pain that hasn’t resolved as it may lead onto other forms of intervention such as injection therapy. It is also particularly useful when looking at Achilles tendon, plantar fascia and elbow pain as well as gluteal bursitis (pain on the side of the hip) as it can help form a more specific tissue diagnosis and therefore guide prognosis of you condition giving you more accurate time frames to full recovery.
We can refer you for a range of different pain-relieving injections under ultrasound guidance, this is particularly useful as we receive valuable clinical information about the structures being scanned and it ensures the injection is administered as accurately as possible into the pain causing tissues.
We can also refer you to a number of MRI scanning centres for further investigations into your musculoskeletal pain. Each centre has a pricing structure to suit a range of budgets (including for people with-out insurance). Locally in Ipswich, the cost of an MRI scan at the Nuffield Hospital starts at £550. We’ve also forged good relationships with scanning centres in Essex (Alliance Healthcare) and London (Vista Health) and can now access MRI scans from as little as £199.
