Since its conception by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s, Pilates has been seen as a complete approach to developing muscle and body awareness. Focusing on mind and body connection while promoting core strength, alignment and flexibility, Pilates is popular as a general fitness and leisure activity. However, Pilates classes – including those at Gilmour Piper – are now recognised as being suitable for injury prevention, injury rehab and a return to fitness. Our practice also sees Pilates as being beneficial as a post and ante natal exercise.
Michael Mann (see www.pilatesmann.com for more information) is one of our Pilates instructors working with you to deliver results. His considerable experience in this field includes many years running the Pilates service at the acclaimed Shrubland Hall Health Clinic.
Osteopath Katie Witherley offers weekly Pilates sessions from the newly refurbished gym at the Gilmour Piper practice in Ipswich, which has Pilates equipment (e.g. the reformer) and mats. Katie trained with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute and she offers unique and energetic insights to her clients based upon her osteopathic training and over 10 years’ Pilates experience.
